Re: Invitation to Kilm Premiere, Honoring the Seewepeme Nations’ 26 Year Journey

We extend our heartfelt invitation to join us for the premiere screening of a film celebrating Stsmémelt, a 26-year journey of visionary leadership, unwavering commitment, and the sacred work of bringing our children home.

In 1999, our Nation began walking a path guided by Secwépeme laws, values, and traditions, reclaiming jurisdiction over our children and families from systems that removed them from our care. For over two decades, our people have worked tirelessly to restore what was taken and to ensure our children grow up knowing who they are, where they come from, and that they belong with us.

This journey has been marked by profound milestones:

  • 1999: Leadership agreed to use delegated agency as an interim measure; vision was lost during this process but not forgotten.
  • 2003: The Tribal Case Book documented Sewépeme stories and legal traditions, while the Sewépemetsin Glossary preserved over 600 terms about children and families
  • 2009: Children from all seventeen communities united under one vision one heart, one mind, one body, one spirit
  • 2010-2018: Communities explored traditional approaches and eleven communities participated in drafting the law and building capacity for jurisdiction
  • 2025: Yewminte re Xqwilint Society (Take Care of Baby Basket Society) was established to implement Secwépeme Law of Stsmémelt and Kw’sélkten

Today, Tkemlúps te Secwépeme, Bonaparte, and Whispering Pines/Clinton Indian Band are leading implementation, ensuring our children come home.

You are invited to witness this historic milestone:
